Key Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the identification, formation or formalization of VSLAs, cooperatives, and producer/processing groups.
  • Facilitate baseline assessments to identify capacity gaps (technical, managerial, organizational).
  • Deliver or coordinate training sessions on: Group governance and leadership, financial literacy and savings principles, business planning and cooperative management, agricultural value addition and post-harvest handling.
  • Initiate and lead participatory planning processes with community groups.
  • Guide groups to develop action plans and business models based on local needs and opportunities.
  • Encourage inclusive participation (women, youth, persons with disabilities).
  • Provide ongoing technical advice on income-generating activities, value chains, processing techniques.
  • Support adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and basic processing technologies.
  • Promote linkages with extension services, input suppliers, and buyers.
  • Support development and adoption of internal rules, recordkeeping systems, and governance mechanisms.
  • Help groups access legal registration and comply with national cooperative laws (where relevant).
  • Strengthen members’ conflict resolution and decision-making capacities.
  • Monitor group performance and progress using clear indicators.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and share feedback to inform program adaptation.
  • Contribute to project reporting, including data collection and analysis.
  • Liaise with local authorities, NGOs, and technical partners for service alignment.
  • Facilitate linkages between VSLAs/coops and financial institutions, markets, or microfinance services.
  • Organize exchanges or learning visits between groups to foster peer learning.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Abilities

(The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training.) 

 

  • The candidate must have a university degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 2 years of professional experience in the implementation of food security, value chain or livelihoods projects.
  • Ability to mobilize, engage and facilitate community groups using participatory tools and inclusive approaches.
  • Experience conducting trainings and coaching sessions in rural settings.
  • Practical knowledge of VSLA methodology, cooperative development, basic financial literacy, business planning, and agri-processing.
  • Understanding of value chains and rural entrepreneurship.
  • Good listener, clear communicator, and culturally sensitive.
  • Able to build trust and maintain strong relationships with communities, local authorities, and partners.
  • Strong in reporting, tracking progress, and maintaining field records.
  • Resourceful in identifying local solutions to group challenges.
  • Flexible in adapting to changing community dynamics or project priorities.
  • Committed to promoting women’s and youth participation and ensuring inclusion of vulnerable groups in all project activities.
  • Works well under supervision and collaborates effectively with colleagues, local partners, and beneficiaries.
  • High integrity, accountability, and respect for confidentiality and community rights.
  • A mature Christian who shows a desire to serve humanity and to strengthen his/her relationship with the Lord.
  • Good command of oral and written French a must.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel would be an advantage
  • Organize exchanges or learning visits between groups to foster peer learning.

Work Environment

  • Work environment:  Field based with frequent travel to the National office
  • Travel:  Field travels
